The Milky Way as is shines brightly above the Double Arch rock formation at Arches National Park in Utah. Great night shooting beneath the stars with Aric Jaye and Bob Maynard. The fuzzy at the 1:00 position is the Andromeda Galaxy. Amazing how small it looks from here. However, it is approximately 100,000 light years from one side to the other. Therefore at 671,000,000 miles per hour, the speed of light, it would take 8760 years to travel from one side of this galaxy to the next. That does not include travel time from our galaxy to reach that galaxy. Depressing huh!!! via 500px

Alabama Hills is truly an awesome place to spend the night photographing. After an epic sunset over Mount Whitney I hiked around a bit until I found some suitable rocks to shoot. For me, there's nothing more fun than pushing the limits of my 1DX on a starry night. via 500px

After the strenuous hike to the top, this amazing landscape presented itself in all its beautiful glory. This is a location that I strongly recommend visiting. However, if you go at night, be sure to bring a powerful flashlight to assist with navigation as the way back down to the parking lot can be a bit tricky in the dark. via 500px
