The nearly century-old Eighth Street bridge stretching over the Passaic River into Bergen County in Wallington, NJ has deteriorated to critical condition: corrosion eating holes through floor beams, fractures disjointing sidewalks. The 292-foot Eighth Street bridge was built in 1914 and was considered a potential historical landmark until its 300ton counterweight, used to open the bridge, began to crumble onto passing cars and had to be removed.
